In the Huberman household, it has accidentally become a tradition every Christmas day to watch Oliver Stone’s Natural Born Killers, an epic story about two lawless outcasts, who kill over 50 people without remorse —while strengthening their love and partnership. The film ventures deep into the darkest shades of humanity, where no person is innocent — and the same system that is charged with redeeming (or executing) the mass murderers, it turns out, is itself a product of the same system that may have corrupted them in the first place.
Ultimately, the film is a clever criticism of media, film and television — and us, for the ways in which we let it seduce and lead our instincts. A great dose of healthy perspective to carry forward into the new year.
Also, Robert Downing Jr. as the Australian veteran-turned-hack journalist-turned-hostage is a treat.
